Insicurezza: il fuoco selvaggio distrugge il mercato del Congo a Douala


Inhabitants of Douala were awaken by cracking sound and choking smoke from wild flames the ravaged the Congo market in Douala on the night of Saturday breaking Sunday 23 – 24 February 2018.

Traders rescued little or nothing from their shops that had been turned to ashes.

The Governor of the Littoral region, Samuel Dieudonne Ivaha Diboua paid an emergency visit to the scene at night while fire fighters were battling with the flames.

By day break the Governor was on site again for an evaluation of the situation.

He told CRTV reporters that he noticed that some shops constructed on the road impede the free movement of fire fighting vehicles thereby rendering the rescue mission difficult and slow.

Financial and material damage has been estimated at hundreds of millions of CFA Francs.

An administrative and judicial investigation has been opened following the incident.
